He has over 45 years of experience in the retail and financial sectors.
As a Senior Vice President and Divisional Director of American Express, a Vice President of American Express International Banking Corporation and American Express International, Inc., Gene had responsibility for Amex’ global company store network. He turned around a loss operation to a profit in his first 11 months.
Prior to being recruited by American Express, Gene was a Vice President & Store Manager of Macy’s where he opened and managed anchor stores in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He pioneered Sunday department store operations in Pennsylvania.
Post his corporate experience as a Consultant to major financial institutions, Gene had client relationships with Chase Bank NA, Citicorp Credit Service/Citigroup, National Westminster Bank (UK) and with financial regulators FDIC, FSLIC, RTC and FADA. Additionally, at GSA Gene was solely responsible for development of the Federal credit card; for NASA he was a Member of the National Academy of Public Administration’s Philips Commission that instituted management changes at NASA as a result of the Challenger Space Shuttle accident.
Additionally, Gene directly advised the Presidents of both Xerox Corporation and Bell Atlantic (Verizon). Other clients included BMSK (Prime Policy Group), EDS, Telemarc (Martin Marietta), Chase Paymentech, Banc One (Chase) and multiple privately-held companies. Gene holds multiple credit card-related patents.
He is a veteran of the US Air Force and attended both the Pennsylvania State University and the University of Virginia. Gene is married with two children and four grandchildren. He resides in Philadelphia and Tucson.
